Leadership

Leadership isn’t about rank. It’s about responsibility, confidence, and setting the example.

In the Air Cadets, leadership isn’t something reserved for adults — it’s something you develop from day one.

Whether you're organising a team for a field exercise, leading a drill practice, mentoring new cadets, or planning an event, every challenge builds real-world leadership skills.

You learn how to communicate clearly, stay calm under pressure, make decisions, and motivate others — even when things don’t go to plan.

Through structured leadership training, practical exercises, and progressive responsibility, cadets grow into confident young leaders who can:
• Take initiative

• Solve problems

• Work effectively in a team

• Support and guide others

• Lead by example

Fieldcraft

Fieldcraft is where teamwork, resilience, and practical skills come together. In the Air Cadets, fieldcraft training takes you out of the squadron and into the field, where you learn how to operate effectively in an outdoor environment. It’s about thinking clearly, working as a team, and adapting to new challenges.
It’s challenging, yes. But it’s also incredibly rewarding. There’s a real sense of achievement when you complete an exercise, knowing you’ve pushed yourself, supported your team, and developed skills that very few people your age experience. Most importantly, fieldcraft is about personal growth. It develops leadership, resilience, and problem-solving under pressure — qualities that last far beyond cadet life.
